- Program Associate
1. Job Title: Principal
Full time, year round position starting July 1, 2019
The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all aspects of the school program at Mother Caroline Academy and Education Center. This includes building a strong school program with a positive culture. The Principal reports to the Head of School, serves as the school’s instructional leader, and is a member of the Leadership Team with the Director of Development, the Director of Student Life, and the Business/ Office Manager.
The Principal is supported by and supervises a diverse and experienced team of permanent faculty members, a technology coordinator, a family liaison intern, the Lead Mentor teacher, a part time nurse, five Program Associates, the Student Coordinator/Admissions Co-coordinator, a part-time music, art, world language, world religion teacher, and technology teacher, and receptionist.
The Principal’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serves as the instructional leader of the school, ensuring that the academic program of curriculum and instruction is of the highest quality
Collaborates with the faculty to develop, review, and upgrade curriculum, pedagogy, and programming, while focusing on best practices and 21st Century skills
Creates a template for weekly instructional goal setting, objectives, resources, and assessments
Aligns all curriculum to the AISNE standards as well as prepares all school committees for the AISNE re-accreditation process
Ensures a holistic learning program for the academic, physical, emotional, and spiritual development of each student
Meets bi-weekly with all faculty, supervises and evaluates all faculty and program associates
Designs and implements a monthly, comprehensive program for professional development for all members of the faculty and program staff
Measures outcomes and student growth by collecting appropriate data and uses the data to improve instruction
Plans and executes all Parent-Teacher conferences
Collaborates with the Landmark School to provide best practices, professional development and support for students with learning differences
Identifies students and initiates the IEP process with the city of Boston Public Schools
Works with the Nativity Miguel coalition to ensure proper model advancement
Provides inspiring personal and professional leadership to students, parents, faculty, and community members
Maintains an effective system of behavior management for students in collaboration with the Director of Student Life
Communicates regularly with parents, students, faculty and staff, and community members regarding school-wide issues, ensuring a sense of openness and transparency
Ensures that our Catholic Identity and core values are present throughout the school program
Supports and collaborates with the Admissions Team in implementing a strong program of student recruitment and transitions into the Academy
Recruit and staff volunteer tutoring and activity programs in collaboration with the
Head of School, development office, and others
Oversees an effective system for student and faculty information management and ensures maintenance of that system, including the grading database, report cards, progress reports, attendance and disciplinary tracking
Manages, in collaboration with Director of Student Life, all non-academic school programs including extended day activities, community service, evening study, student performances, and other extracurricular activities
Oversees the schools’ extended-year programs including the summer Test Prep and 4th grade introductory camp program
Oversees certain department budgets and related spending including Maintenance, Program Assistant living, Professional Development, and Field Trips
Maintains a system to ensure the safety of each student and the security of the school during school operations that respects all applicable legal and ethical guidelines
Works with the Director of Student Life to place students in strong secondary schools
Manages the Master Schedule and all teaching and other faculty assignments
With support from the Head of School, recruits and recommends to the Head of School exceptional candidates for teaching positions and Program Associates
Public Relations and Development
Provide assistance and support with all development efforts
Attend donor meetings, events, and community activities
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
Deep knowledge of middle school pedagogy, urban education, and 21st century skills needed for secondary school placement. Effective interpersonal skills in managing and interacting with a diverse groups of stakeholders; Excellent time management and organizational skills; Ability to manage challenges and conflict through quality decision-making and effective problem solving, ability to manage operations in a timely manner.
Master’s Degree: Preferred in Education or Educational Leadership
Experience in Instructional Leadership
Teaching experience in a middle or high school
8-10 years working with a diverse group of students
Evaluations and or recommendations from recent supervisor will be requested

2. Job Title: Program Associate
For the 2019-2020 school year, we are looking for dynamic and motivated college graduates to support our students’ success. We seek candidates who demonstrate a passion for urban education. Housing and food is provided as well as a monthly stipend in addition to the AmeriCorps grant. Mother Caroline Academy (MCA) is a private, tuition free school for girls in grades 4-8 from limited
financial means. It serves girls of all faiths, races and cultures from Boston neighborhoods. The mission of the school is to provide a high-quality education that develops the individual gifts of each student and prepares her for success in competitive secondary schools and college. Rooted in the Catholic tradition, now fully independent, we recognize the dignity of each person. The Academy emphasizes the importance of scholarship, leadership, spiritual, and social development.
AmeriCorps Program Associate Job Description:
The Program Associate’s primary role is to support student development and academic success both inside and outside of the classroom. Responsibilities include:
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering daily lessons
- Assist teacher in preparing progress reports; administering assessments, and creating portfolios.
- Provide one-on-one tutoring to students as well as small group instruction Assist in homeroom
- Design and offer after school programs for students (3:30-4:45)
- Attend staff meetings
- Act as a mentor in building meaningful relationships with students
- Supervise students as needed
Much of our students’ success reflects the quality of relationships that faculty and AmeriCorps Associates develop with individual students and their families.
