SUMMARY:
Mother Caroline Academy (MCA) seeks a driven, well-qualified Lower School Math Specialist to join its robust faculty and staff.

Mother Caroline Academy is a tuition-free, independent school for girls in grades 3-8 from Boston’s underserved neighborhoods. Serving girls of all faiths, races, and cultures, the school provides a high-quality education that nurtures each student’s unique gifts and prepares her for success in competitive secondary schools and college. Rooted in Catholic tradition, MCA emphasizes scholarship, leadership, and social and moral development. The Academy supports its graduates through secondary and college education, with a 100% high school graduation rate and 96% college enrollment rate.
In addition to its academic focus, MCA offers educational programs for families, helping to ensure a supportive community. With a 7:1 student-to-teacher ratio and extended school days, MCA provides a holistic education that fosters academic skills, resilience, and character. Graduates attend top schools such as Boston Latin, Commonwealth School, and St. Paul’s, and aspire to careers in medicine, engineering, business, education, and more. Our Students:
Mother Caroline Academy & Education Center serves 74+ girls in grades 3-8, who are 80% African American, 13% Hispanic, 7% mixed race. Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Lower School Math Specialist to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting student success by providing targeted math instruction, collaborating closely with classroom teachers and tutors, and utilizing data-driven decision-making to enhance learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Small Group Instruction: Deliver focused, small-group math interventions to support students’ diverse learning needs, reinforcing foundational concepts and fostering mathematical confidence.
- Collaboration with Core Teachers and Tutors: Work in partnership with classroom teachers and tutors to align instructional strategies, co-plan lessons, and integrate effective math practices into the broader curriculum.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Regularly assess student progress through formal and informal assessments, analyzing data to inform instructional adjustments and identify areas for targeted support.
- Progress Monitoring: Implement and maintain systematic progress monitoring practices, tracking student growth and communicating findings with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure continuous development.
- Co-Teaching: Actively participate in co-teaching models, providing in-class support to differentiate instruction and enrich math learning experiences.
- Curriculum Development: Contribute to the design and refinement of math curricula, recommending and integrating research-based strategies and resources to enhance student engagement and achievement.
- Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in math education through ongoing professional learning, sharing insights, and leading workshops or training sessions for colleagues as needed.
Qualifications:
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree and or Master’s Degree (or working towards) in Education or related field
- Strong understanding of math pedagogy and differentiated instruction
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Use data to inform instructional planning and practice. Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, sharing and analyzing student performance results, and humility in constantly working to improve instructional practices.
- Experience in standards-based, backwards planning.
- Experience working in an entrepreneurial, dynamic school or related demanding environment.
- Have proficiency in email, word processing, spreadsheets, Google Docs/Classroom, etc.
- Family Engagement: Collaborate with families to share student progress, offer strategies for at-home math support, and build a strong home-school connection to reinforce learning.
